Apa Cerita Pulai Hari Ini? Si Pulai meets a tiny underground worker that secretly shapes the forest floor beneath its roots. Introducing, Earthworm (Lumbricus sp.), the humble cacing tanah that keep the soil healthy from below.

One quiet morning, after a night of gentle rain, I felt something stir near my roots. A small, slick creature glided silently through the softened earth. Curious, I reached down with my thoughts and asked:

“How do you live down there, in the dark and damp, with no limbs or light to guide you?”

“My skin is everything.” It seemed to say.

A thin, glistening layer covers me, always moist. I coat myself in mucus—not for comfort, but for life. Through this skin, I breathe. I have no lungs, no mouth for air. Only a surface through which oxygen and carbon dioxide pass, as long as I stay wet. Dryness, for me, is an end.

As I glide through the soil, friction generates tiny charges along my skin. These pull water molecules toward me—silent magnets drawing moisture from the earth. This keeps me slick, cool, and washed, no matter how deep I dive.

“But you have no eyes,” I wondered. “How do you know where you’re going?”

I feel the world through my skin; sensing touch, heat, light, and chemicals. When sunlight threatens to dry me, I retreat. When moisture calls, I move.

Even my surface lives. Tiny microbes cling to me, helping me survive polluted soil, shielding me, feeding me, warning me. We face the world together.

Near my front, a thickened band glows with purpose. From here, the next generation begins; sealed in silk, nestled in the earth.

The creature paused as it passed by my roots, leaving a faint trail of moisture behind. And ever since, I’ve whispered this to those who walk among my shade:

Respect our soil-keeper, the earthworm. It breathes, feels, cleans, and gives life. Without it, the forest would not be whole.

“Tetapi kau tiada mata,” bisikku. “Bagaimana kau tahu ke mana arah tujumu?”

Aku merasai dunia melalui kulitku. Apabila cahaya matahari terasa terik, aku berundur. Apabila kelembapan memanggil, aku mara. Kulitku sendiri menumpangkan kehidupan. Mikrob kecil melekat padaku, membantu aku bertahan dalam tanah tercemar, melindungi, menyuburkan, dan kadangkala memberi amaran. Kami hadapi dunia bersama-sama.
