Plants in the Pulai

Fun Facts:

  • The Simpoh Air is highly resilient and is famous for its ability to grow rapidly in open, sunlit spaces and disturbed soil.
  • It produces large, bright yellow flowers with five delicate petals that bloom exactly at the break of dawn.
  • Its massive, tough green leaves were traditionally used by local vendors to neatly wrap food like ‘tapai’ or fresh market produce.
  • Its root system goes incredibly deep into the earth to find water, which often signals the presence of underground springs.

Where Can You Find It?

  • It is widely found along forest edges, sunny clearings, and riverbanks across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
  • You will easily spot it near the sunnier entrance areas and open clearings of the Pulai Trail.
  • Look out for its large, bright yellow flowers adding a splash of vibrant color to the green landscape!
